The San Marcos Youth Service Bureau is an independent, non-profit agency that has been in operation since 1975. We provide a free after- school and summer programs to youth ages 11-17. Originally a pilot project of Southside Community Center to address the chemical abuse problem in the San Marcos area, the agency’s focus soon evolved to include prevention of all delinquent behaviors. In the past several years, YSB has concentrated on the overall promotion of healthy youth development in San Marcos and Hays County.

Our program runs Monday-Thursday from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. throughout the SMCISD’s school calendar.

We focus on tutoring, educational workshops, volunteer work in the community, outdoor learning and general prevention.

The Problem: Youth residing in the San Marcos and Hays County communities face obstacles created by a lack of material resources, a safe environment to develop positive socialization skills, lack of role models, low expectations or stigmas by community and negative peer pressure.

We aim to provide the youth of these communities with positive role models, tutors, mentors and friends who assist them with their growth into contributing members of society.

  1. I volunteer some of my time to help nonprofits with their websites. I worked in IT for 18 years and was also a professional webmaster. I’ve helped a lot organizations already. Do you have any interest in getting a new custom website at no cost? I just helped a canine rescue and their site is really nice now. I worked with a homeless shelter before that and also helped them with professional online donations.

  2. I would love to Volunteer this spring to help in anyway I can. I am a senior biochemist at Texas State. I have tutored in the past, performed presentations and experiments for kids at local San Marcos schools, and helped coordinate science fair events at the local library. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do!
